Start with what the platform permits
Etsy is not simply another place to post all the same stock. Its official guidance describes made, designed, handpicked and sourced categories with specific rules, and limited resale exceptions.
The eligibility guide explains vintage age, qualifying supplies and curated collections without turning those terms into general loopholes. This hub is independent of Etsy and does not approve products or shops.
Worked example: ten items, six unresolved claims
Suppose four of ten candidate garments have reliable age evidence and six do not. You have four supported age cases to investigate further, not ten automatically vintage listings. The remaining six need research or a different truthful, eligible route.
Those counts are hypothetical. They do not estimate how much thrifted clothing is vintage, and passing the age question does not clear every other safety, authenticity or platform requirement.
Keep the claim attached to its source
Save item-specific documentation and describe only what it supports. Retro appearance, a confident seller or an attractive backstory is not enough to establish a manufacturing date.

Is Etsy open to ordinary resale of every commercial product?
No. Etsy describes limited resale exceptions and creativity standards. Read the rules for the actual product rather than relying on another seller's listing.
Can a handmade note make an unaltered resale item handmade?
Not on that basis. Etsy explicitly gives adding a card or note to an otherwise unaltered commercial product as a prohibited resale example.
