Bundle pricing: share the postage you save, don’t give it all away

Set bundle discounts from the postage and packing you save by shipping together, with fee effects, floors, weight checks and the bundle tools on major apps.

Example scenario · illustrative, not a real seller

An example three-sweater bundle saves $10.60 in postage and packing against three separate parcels. A 15% discount, $6.75 off $45, gives the buyer about two-thirds of that and keeps the rest.

What you’ll get

  • Bundle tools on Mercari, Etsy, eBay and Poshmark.
  • How to calculate the parcel saving.
  • How fees shift with a lower price.
  • A discount table that shares the saving.
  • Weight and floor checks.

A bundle discount is paid for by the postage you save

When a buyer takes three items in one parcel, you buy one label instead of three, pack once instead of three times and answer one set of questions. Some of that saving can go back to the buyer as a bundle discount. The trick is to know how much you're saving before you decide how much to give away.

This guide shows how to set a bundle discount from your own costs, with notes on the bundle tools at Mercari, Etsy and eBay, checked November 8, 2026.

How platforms support bundles

PlatformBundle tool, as described on its help pages
MercariBuyers can bundle items from one seller into a single order and package
EtsyFixed shipping profiles have One item and Additional item rates; Etsy charges the highest One item price plus each other item's Additional item price
eBaySeller Hub discounts such as Volume Pricing and Order Size Discounts, for sending more than one item in the same shipment
PoshmarkBuyers can bundle several items from one closet, with one shipping charge

The mechanics differ, but the decision is the same: how much lower can the combined price go while you still come out ahead of selling separately?

Step 1: Work out what one parcel saves

In this chosen example, three sweaters are listed at $15, $12 and $18, each with free shipping built into the price. Shipped separately, each costs about $6.50 to post plus $0.60 in packaging. In one box, the three cost $9.80 to post plus $0.90 packaging.

SeparatelyOne parcel
Postage3 × $6.50 = $19.50$9.80
Packaging3 × $0.60 = $1.80$0.90
Total$21.30$10.70
Saving$10.60

You save $10.60 by shipping together. That's the ceiling for a bundle discount that leaves you no worse off than three separate sales, before fees and time.

Step 2: Account for fees

On percentage-fee platforms, a lower combined price also means a lower fee. On a 10% fee, a $45 bundle discounted to $38 pays $3.80 instead of $4.50. So a $7 discount actually costs you $6.30 after the fee saving. On flat-fee structures, such as Poshmark's $2.95 below $15, bundling low-priced items can avoid several flat fees at once: three $12 items sold separately pay $8.85 in flat fees, while a $36 bundle pays 20%, $7.20. The Poshmark $15 line manual explains that boundary.

Step 3: Choose a discount that shares the saving

A common approach is to give the buyer part of the saving and keep part. In this example:

Bundle priceDiscountShare of $10.60 saving given away
$45.00$00%
$41.00$4.00about 38%
$38.25$6.75 (15%)about 64%
$34.40$10.60100%

A 15% bundle discount here gives away about two-thirds of the postage saving. You still end up better off than three separate sales, and the buyer sees a clear reason to add more.

Step 4: Check the bundle against your floor

Make sure each item in a bundle still clears its own floor, especially if one item had a thin margin. If the $12 sweater only cleared $3 profit at full price, a 15% bundle discount spread evenly takes $1.80 of that. The price floor tool helps check.

Step 5: Watch the weight

Bundles get heavy. Three sweaters might push a parcel over a weight break, or over Poshmark's 5 lb standard label. Weigh the bundle before accepting. The Mercari bundles guide and the Poshmark shipping labels guide explain platform specifics.

Step 6: Use bundles to clear slow stock

Bundles are also a way to move items that haven't sold alone. Pair a slow item with a popular one in a suggested bundle, or offer a bigger discount when buyers add a third item. The stale inventory manual covers when to cut prices on slow stock instead.

The mini calculator

The calculator on this page applies a discount to a bundle: enter your floor, the combined asking price and the discount percentage to see the discounted price and whether it stays above your floor.

Common mistakes

  • Offering a bundle discount larger than the postage you save.
  • Forgetting that a heavy bundle can cost more to post than expected.
  • Letting a thin-margin item fall below its floor inside a bundle.
  • Ignoring fee changes, especially near flat-fee boundaries.
  • Treating every bundle request as a reason to discount; sometimes the one-parcel convenience is enough.

Share the saving, don't give it all away

The right bundle discount is a share of the postage and packing you save by sending one parcel. Calculate that saving first, and the discount sets itself.

Chosen example · edit the numbers

Enter your bundle floor, combined price and discount.

A chosen $45.00 asking price with a 15% discount becomes $38.25. Compare with the chosen $34.40 item-price floor, under unchanged shipping and fee terms. That floor is a cost constraint, not market value or a safe automatic-acceptance setting.

Practical questions

How big should a bundle discount be?

Less than the postage and packing you save by shipping one parcel. In the example, anything under $10.60 off leaves you better off than three separate sales.

How does Etsy combine shipping?

Etsy charges the most expensive One item rate in the order and adds each other item’s Additional item rate.

Can bundling avoid Poshmark’s flat fee?

It can help. Three $12 items pay $8.85 in flat fees separately, while a $36 bundle pays 20%, or $7.20.

Does eBay have bundle tools?

eBay’s seller page mentions Seller Hub discounts such as Volume Pricing and Order Size Discounts for sending more than one item in a shipment.
