Example scenario · illustrative, not a real seller
An example bundle of three items weighs 1 lb 14 oz together. In a box with padding, it weighs 2 lb 6 oz. The shipping choice has to follow the second number, not the first.

A bundle is several sales packed into one box
Mercari bundles let buyers combine items from one seller into a single order and a single package. For sellers, that means one package to pack, one label and often a faster way to move small, low-value items. It also means one weight, one set of dimensions and one return covering everything, so a mistake in any part affects the whole order.
Pack bundles with the same care you would give a single expensive item.
How bundles reach you
Mercari's guide to bundling, checked November 8, 2026, describes several routes:
| Route | Who starts it | What happens |
|---|---|---|
| Buy now bundle | Buyer | Adds several of your items to cart and checks out |
| Bundle offer | Buyer | Adds items to cart and sends an offer; you accept, counter or decline within 24 hours |
| Custom bundle listing | You | You create one new listing containing the agreed items |
| Bundle discount | You | Automatic savings for 2, 3, 4 or 5+ items |
The guide notes that if one item in a bundle offer sells before you respond, the offer is canceled and the buyer can send a revised one. It mentions different item caps in different sections, so check the current limit in the app if you sell many small items.
Step 1: Know who pays shipping and what it is based on
Mercari says it calculates a bundle's shipping by adding up the highest individual weight for each item in the bundle and selecting the most affordable prepaid label option within that weight range. If every item uses buyer-paid shipping, the buyer pays the full shipping. If the bundle mixes buyer-paid and seller-paid items, Mercari determines who pays. The guide says that for seller-paid shipping, billed charges won't exceed the original shipping charges for each item.
Because the label depends on the weights you entered on each listing, accurate weights on single listings matter for bundles too.
Step 2: Weigh the packed bundle before printing
The label covers a maximum weight, so weigh the bundle in its final box with padding. Mercari's listing guide says sellers are responsible for selecting the correct label category and dimensional weight, and for any surcharges from an incorrect category or weight.
In this chosen example, three items listed separately at 8 oz, 12 oz and 10 oz total 1 lb 14 oz. Packed together in a box with paper and tape, the parcel weighs 2 lb 6 oz.
| Line | Weight |
|---|---|
| Item A | 8 oz |
| Item B | 12 oz |
| Item C | 10 oz |
| Items combined | 1 lb 14 oz |
| Packed bundle with box and padding | 2 lb 6 oz |
If the label covers less than the packed weight, you risk a carrier adjustment. Check the label weight against the packed parcel before you drop it off, and the box dimensions against any dimensional-weight limit. The packing fit tool helps check the box.
Step 3: Pack each item separately inside the box
Mercari's guide recommends picking the smallest box that fits everything with cushioning, wrapping each item individually, keeping at least an inch of packaging between items, filling empty space, marking fragile contents and taping every opening. It also suggests a shake test before sealing and photographs of the packed items before and after taping.
Return rule: Mercari's bundle guide says partial returns aren't accepted on bundles; a buyer who returns must send back all items. Your packing photos are your record of exactly what went in the box.
Step 4: Create custom bundle listings correctly
If a buyer asks you for a custom bundle, Mercari's help article says to confirm the items, create a new listing with clear photos and descriptions of every bundled item, choose a shipping weight and dimensions that fit them all, notify the buyer, and deactivate or delete the individual listings to prevent someone else buying them. Ship everything in one box with one tracking number.
Forgetting to deactivate the single listings is the most common way a bundle turns into a cancellation.
Step 5: Watch protection limits on valuable bundles
Mercari says its standard prepaid label Shipping Protection of up to $200 still applies to bundles, and suggests extra insurance for high-value bundles. If the bundle's value is higher, consider whether separate shipments or added coverage make sense. Mercari's listing guide also mentions shipping on your own for items needing more than $200 of insurance.
Common mistakes
- Using the sum of item weights instead of the packed bundle weight.
- Leaving single listings active after creating a custom bundle.
- Packing items loosely together so they damage each other.
- Skipping photos of the packed contents.
- Shipping a high-value bundle without considering the protection limit.
The Mercari shipping options guide and the packed box manual cover the rest of shipping.
One box, one standard
Weigh the packed bundle, wrap every item on its own and photograph the contents before sealing. A bundle is only a time-saver if it arrives complete.

Practical questions
Can buyers bundle my items themselves?
Yes. Mercari describes buyers adding several of your items to the cart and checking out, or sending a bundle offer.
How long do I have to respond to a bundle offer?
The bundle offer route described here gives you 24 hours to accept, counter or decline.
Is there a maximum number of items in a bundle?
Mercari’s help pages describe limits; check the current number in the app when you create the bundle.
Why weigh the packed bundle?
Several items in one box weigh more than their sum once packaging is added, and the label must match.
