Example scenario · illustrative, not a real seller
An example bundle of a coat and boots weighs 6 lb 12 oz once packed. That is over the standard 5 lb label, so a $5 upgrade is needed before it ships.

One label covers five pounds; everything heavier has a rule
Poshmark sends a prepaid shipping label for every sale. That simplicity hides a weight limit that matters more since October 26, 2026: the standard label covers packages up to 5 lb, and if a heavier package ships without an upgraded label, Poshmark now deducts the upgrade cost from your earnings. Coats, boots, handbags and bundles cross that line more often than you might expect.
Weigh the packed parcel every time, and upgrade before you ship.
The current label tiers
Poshmark's October 8, 2026 blog post on label upgrades, checked November 8, 2026, lists:
| Packed weight | Label | Seller cost |
|---|---|---|
| Up to 5 lb | Standard label | No additional cost |
| 5.01–10 lb | Upgraded label | $5.00 |
| 10.01–15 lb | Upgraded label | $10.00 |
| Over 15 lb | Split into separate boxes with additional labels | Each additional label has a separate fee |
The same post says that starting October 26, 2026, shipping a package over 5 lb without upgrading means the required upgrade cost is deducted from your earnings, which Poshmark previously covered. If a package over 15 lb ships on a single label, it says $15.00 is deducted for 15.01–25 lb, and the full USPS shipping cost for anything over 25 lb.
Step 1: Weigh the packed parcel
Poshmark says package weight includes the item and all packing materials: the box, padding and tape. Weigh after sealing, on a scale you trust. A sweater at 4 lb 10 oz can become 5 lb 4 oz in a sturdy box.
In this chosen example, you sell a coat and boots as a bundle. The coat weighs 3 lb 2 oz, the boots 2 lb 12 oz, and the box, paper and tape 14 oz.
| Part | Weight |
|---|---|
| Coat | 3 lb 2 oz |
| Boots | 2 lb 12 oz |
| Box, padding and tape | 14 oz |
| Packed total | 6 lb 12 oz |
If your kitchen or bathroom scale only reads whole pounds, round up, or use a postal scale that reads ounces. Packages close to a tier boundary are where a cheap scale costs money.
The packed total falls in the 5.01–10 lb tier, so you upgrade the label for $5.00 before shipping. Skipping the upgrade would not avoid the cost; under the October 2026 rule it would be deducted anyway, and the parcel may be delayed.
Step 2: Upgrade the label
Poshmark's post gives these steps in the app:
- Select the Me tab, then Sales, then the order.
- Select Upgrade Shipping Label under the Shipping Your Order options.
- Select the package weight, then Next.
- Choose Email Printable Label or Generate QR Code.
For a bundle over 15 lb, split the items into separate boxes and generate an additional label for each extra box.
Step 3: Use the right packaging
Poshmark moved its labels to USPS Ground Advantage in September 2025. Its announcement said USPS Priority Mail packaging can no longer be used for Poshmark orders, and that USPS would charge a $5 fee for using Priority Mail packaging, deducted from the seller's balance. Use plain boxes, poly mailers or Ground Advantage supplies. The same announcement said orders were expected to arrive in 2 to 5 business days and that luxury orders over $500 require signature confirmation.
Hazmat marking check: Poshmark's October 5, 2026 post says that starting October 19, 2026, sellers are responsible for USPS's $50 hazmat noncompliance fee if a package is flagged, and that the most common cause is reusing a box with old hazmat labels. Remove or cover every old marking, including the small black-and-white "Limited Quantity" diamond, or use a new box.
Step 4: Check what can ship
Poshmark's September 2025 announcement reminded sellers that nail polish, perfume and aerosols aren't supported on Poshmark labels under USPS rules. Check the USPS shipping restrictions page and the restricted items manual for anything unusual.
Step 5: Price heavy items with the upgrade in mind
Poshmark's own post suggests keeping the label upgrade in mind when pricing bulky items, and weighing bundles after packing. If a coat will always ship at 6 lb, the $5 upgrade is a fixed cost of selling it. Add it to your floor alongside Poshmark's fee. The Poshmark bundle costs guide covers bundle pricing.
Common mistakes
- Weighing the item but not the packed box.
- Assuming the standard label covers any bundle.
- Reusing boxes with old hazmat or Priority Mail markings.
- Shipping over 15 lb on one label instead of splitting.
- Pricing a heavy item without the upgrade cost.
Weigh, upgrade, then ship
Since October 26, 2026, skipping a label upgrade no longer saves anything: the cost comes out of your earnings. Weigh the sealed parcel, upgrade in the app and use clean, unmarked packaging.
