Sell on Depop without letting styling replace the facts

Create a Depop listing around the actual garment, measured fit and clear defects, then check the separate US processing and optional boosting costs.

Example scenario · illustrative, not a real seller

You style an example jacket beautifully, but the styling hides a worn cuff. A buyer can admire the outfit and still receive a misleading offer. Keep the creative presentation; add the evidence it cannot replace.

What you’ll get

  • Use styling without obscuring condition.
  • Distinguish measured fit from a personal fit opinion.
  • Review processing and promotion before choosing a price.

Lead with the garment; let the styling support it

Take a clear overall image plus close views of the fabric, tags, closures and defects. If a styled photograph hides a cuff, seam or hem, add an unstyled view. Do not let the buyer infer that accessories in the scene are included when they are not.

Describe the actual worn cuff in words as well as a photograph. State only the tests, cleaning or alterations you actually performed. This guide describes a suggested workflow, not a claim that we tested garments or measured sales results.

Fit is evidence, not confidence

Record the tagged size and explain how you took flat measurements. A statement that something fits oversized on you is not a universal size conversion. Include useful dimensions and disclose alterations.

Use decade and vintage language only where you can support the age. Style resemblance is not a manufacturing date. The vintage-clothing guide separates those questions before they reach a title.

Worked example: processing is not selling commission

Depop's fee page, checked November 8, 2026, publishes no US selling commission and US payment processing of 3.3% plus $0.45 on item price, shipping and applicable buyer taxes. For a chosen unboosted $40 item with zero shipping and buyer tax assumed only for illustration, processing is $1.77.

That leaves $38.23 before acquisition, fulfilment and other actual costs. It is not profit and not a typical transaction. Optional boosting has a separate basis and attribution rules explained in the US fee guide.

Review the promise before publishing

Check included items, price, shipping and handling together. Read the actual current transaction options rather than copying a screenshot from another country. Keep payment and order verification within the supported platform flow.

A desirable look and a complete description can coexist. Use the final review to make sure the buyer can see both the style and the worn cuff.

Practical questions

Does no selling fee mean I keep the whole price?

No. Depop publishes a separate payment-processing fee, and optional boosting can add another charge. Check location, listing eligibility and the actual transaction.

Should I add unrelated brands or trends for reach?

No. Describe what the actual item is. Unrelated names and unsupported style or vintage claims make the offer less accurate, not more useful.
