Example scenario · illustrative, not a real seller
Your example title reads L@@K AMAZING FIND RARE. The photograph shows a plain blue cotton shirt, but the buyer searching by brand, tagged size or sleeve type has little useful text to match.
What you’ll get
- Replace hype with supported product identifiers.
- Choose the attributes that distinguish the actual item.
- Keep titles, structured fields and descriptions consistent.
Start with the words that identify the object
Write the verified brand, product type, model or edition first where relevant. Then choose attributes that distinguish the actual item: size, color, material or an included component. A buyer should not have to decode attention-seeking punctuation to discover what is offered.
Do not borrow another brand's name to attract its buyers. Do not use rare, authentic, tested or vintage unless your evidence supports that specific claim. Search language is still a factual description.
Worked example: remove noise without inventing a brand
For a hypothetical unbranded shirt, replace the hype title with Blue Cotton Long Sleeve Shirt Tagged M. Use cotton only if supported by the fiber label, and tagged M only if the tag is readable. If either fact is unknown, investigate or omit it rather than filling the space by guesswork.
Suppose your draft has 52 characters and you add a verified 9-character model identifier plus a separating space. The result is 62 characters. This arithmetic is a writing example, not a performance test or a claim that a longer title sells better.
Respect the actual field limit
As of November 8, 2026, eBay's official listing guidance states an 80-character title limit and recommends useful attributes rather than irrelevant words. Other platforms differ. Do not assume a subtitle is free or that every optional field is worth buying.
Read the title on a narrow screen, then compare it with the category and item specifics. A correct title cannot compensate for a wrong structured size field or a misleading catalog match.
Keep the essential disclosure elsewhere too
A title cannot carry every defect, measurement and included part. Put the full condition evidence in photographs and description. If a material limitation changes the product identity, make it prominent rather than burying it beneath promotional text.
Write for the buyer who already knows what they are searching for. The goal is an accurate match, not the greatest possible number of unrelated impressions.

Practical questions
Can a keyword-filled title guarantee a higher search rank?
No. This guide makes no ranking or sales guarantee. Accurate, relevant language helps describe the item; it does not establish the marketplace algorithm or demand.
Does every platform use eBay's title limit?
No. eBay publishes an 80-character title limit, but other marketplaces have their own current fields and rules. Check the actual platform rather than copying the limit universally.
