Selling on Vinted in the US: no seller fee, so price for the buyer’s total

How Vinted works for US sellers: no selling fee, a buyer-paid Vinted fee and shipping, prepaid labels, refunds, and how to price against fee-charging apps.

Example scenario · illustrative, not a real seller

An example $24 sweater leaves the seller $24.00 on Vinted, $21.00 on Mercari with $6 buyer-paid shipping, and $19.20 on Poshmark, before item cost. The Vinted buyer, though, pays a fee on top.

Vinted flips who pays the fee

On most US resale apps, the seller's payout is the sale price minus a commission. Vinted works the other way round: its help center says there are no selling fees, and the buyer pays a Vinted fee on top of the item price. For a seller, that means the listed price is, in principle, what you receive for the item. For pricing, it means the buyer is comparing your price plus a fee plus shipping against other apps' all-in prices.

This guide explains how selling on Vinted in the US works, from Vinted's help and "how it works" pages checked November 8, 2026, and how to decide which items belong there.

What "no selling fee" means for your price

In this chosen example, a knit sweater could sell for about $24 on several apps.

App, simplifiedBuyer seesSeller's feeSeller keeps before item cost
Vinted, listed at $24$24 + Vinted fee + shipping$0$24.00
Mercari, listed at $24, buyer pays $6 shipping$24 + $6 + Mercari's buyer charges10% of $30 = $3.00$21.00
Poshmark, listed at $24$24 + Poshmark's shipping charge20% = $4.80$19.20

Mercari's fee page says its 10% selling fee applies to the item price plus buyer-paid shipping; Poshmark's getting started guide gives 20% on sales of $15 or more. These are simplified views that leave out tax and promotions; use the marketplace net tool for your own items.

The catch is on the buyer side. A buyer on Vinted pays the Vinted fee on top of your $24, so your listing competes at a higher all-in price than the number you set. If similar sweaters sell elsewhere for $24 all-in, you may need to price a little lower on Vinted to look competitive. That's still often a better payout.

Step 1: Decide which items suit Vinted

Vinted is built around clothing, shoes and accessories, with other categories in the app. Items that suit it best:

  • Everyday clothing in the $10–$40 range, where commission-based fees take a large share.
  • Light items that fit a small parcel, since buyers pay shipping and notice high postage.
  • Pieces with clear sizing and measurements.

Bulky homeware, furniture and anything fragile are usually better on local channels.

Step 2: List with measurements and flaws

Because Vinted refunds buyers for items that are significantly not as described, your description and photos are your protection. Give:

  • Brand and size exactly as tagged.
  • Two or three key measurements.
  • Materials, from the label.
  • Every flaw, photographed at close range.

The thrift clothing measurements manual and the showing defects guide cover both.

Step 3: Price against all-in buyer cost

Look at what comparable items sold for, then remember the buyer adds a fee and shipping. A practical approach is to price at or slightly below the typical sold price elsewhere, since your payout doesn't lose a commission. The sold comps manual explains how to read comparable sales without letting one lucky sale set your price.

Step 4: Pack before you accept the sale

When an item sells, Vinted gives you a prepaid label. Pack to the size you selected, and keep a photo of the packed item and the drop-off receipt. If a buyer reports damage, you have a record of how it left.

Step 5: Cross-list with care

Many sellers list the same piece on Vinted and on one or two other apps. If you do, remove the others as soon as one sells. The cross-listing manual covers the routine.

Common mistakes

  • Pricing exactly the same as on fee-charging apps and losing sales to the buyer fee.
  • Skipping measurements on clothing where sizing varies.
  • Leaving out flaws, which invites "not as described" refunds.
  • Forgetting to remove cross-listed copies after a sale.
  • Listing heavy items where buyer shipping costs more than the item.

The listed price is your price

On Vinted, your payout starts at the price you set, so price for the buyer's all-in cost, not for a commission you don't pay. Light, everyday clothing is where that difference matters most.
