A Marketplace listing should answer whether it fits in the car

Write a local Marketplace listing with actual dimensions, defects, included parts and pickup constraints so a buyer can plan an informed inspection.

Example scenario · illustrative, not a real seller

Your example desk is described as compact, but the buyer arrives with a small hatchback and no way to remove its legs. The missing facts were dimensions and disassembly—not another adjective in the title.

What you’ll get

  • Describe the physical item and transport problem.
  • Make defects and included parts visible.
  • State pickup boundaries without publishing private details.

Replace compact with measurements

Measure width, depth and height at the widest relevant points. Say whether the measurements include handles, feet or attached parts. If a component can be removed, explain what you actually know about that process without promising that every fastener will come free.

For furniture, the transport problem is part of the offer. A buyer needs to understand doorways, stairs and loading requirements before making the trip. Do not put the exact private address in the public description to explain those constraints.

Photograph the places that affect the decision

Show the entire item, then joints, top surfaces, edges and damage. A cover image of a decorated desk does not show a cracked bracket under it. Make clear which accessories are included and which are only in the photograph.

Check eligibility under current Marketplace rules before listing. Category availability and selling features can vary; this guide does not assume that every account can use shipping or checkout. It focuses on a local physical-item offer.

Worked example: dimensions are not a fit promise

For a hypothetical 48 × 24 × 30-inch desk, the buyer must compare the vehicle opening, usable interior and loading orientation. An interior length of 50 inches alone does not establish a fit if the opening is narrower than the required cross-section.

If the legs are removable, measure the actual disassembled pieces only after confirming that removal is practical. State which measurements you took. Do not convert a guess about disassembly into an unconditional transport claim.

Explain the pickup without overpromising

Give the general area, realistic availability and access constraints. State if the buyer needs another adult to move the item and whether you can provide any help. Arrange exact details privately and reconsider last-minute changes that undermine the plan.

The best local listing answers what it is, what is wrong with it, and what it takes to collect it. It does not promise instant sales, safe strangers or universal payment protection.

Practical questions

Should I put my exact home address in a public listing?

Avoid publishing unnecessary private details. Give a general area and arrange a suitable meeting privately through the supported communication flow.

Do dimensions prove an item will fit a buyer vehicle?

No. The buyer must check openings, interior space, loading orientation and transport safety. Measurements are evidence for planning, not a loading guarantee.
